Chelsea Elliott - Quality and Qualifications Manager in Scotland

To mark Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2022 we’re featuring some of our own apprentices and training staff at RHA Training.

We speak to Chelsea Elliott, who’s our Quality and Qualifications Manager.

I love apprenticeships because…

They allow you to learn and gain a qualification while working on the job.

Who can become an apprentice?

Anyone from leaving school upwards can become an apprentice.

What kind of apprenticeships are there in the commercial vehicle sector?

At the RHA we offer apprenticeships in business administration, driving goods vehicles (vans, rigids and artic), warehousing and logistic operations. Our current apprentices have recently completed an apprenticeship in driving goods vehicles.

What benefits and skills do apprentices bring to your organisation?

Apprentices are the future of the industry; they often fill a skills gap to businesses as well as bring new ideas and trends.

Many apprentices feel they are doing small “pointless” jobs when in fact these jobs are some of the most important. Our two current apprentices have definitely made a big impact in the office through which other colleagues have really appreciated.

What qualities do you look for in an apprentice?

We look for someone who is willing to learn, passionate about business, and is motivated, reliable and driven.

How can people get involved?

We are always looking to recruit apprentices for the RHA in April each year. We have found this to be successful and will continue this in the future. Keep an eye out on our website for new opportunities.

How are apprenticeships being used to address the skills gap/driver shortage?

The freight logistics framework is helping address skills and driver shortages because it allows employers to bring in younger people into the industry to become drivers, support drivers to gain higher category licences, or bring people from the warehouse into vehicles.

Apprenticeships can also help bring new people into warehouses, or to become transport staff, transport managers, inhouse trainers and much, much more.

How can people find out about apprenticeships?

You can speak to the RHA Bathgate training team on 01506 420 978 or our business development manager Simon on 07718580076. You can also find out more information on our website.
