HGV Heroes – We couldn’t have done this without you

We are now in the final week of our two month #HGVHeroes campaign which has provided the RHA with the opportunity to highlight to the nation the incredible work that #HGVHeroes perform day in day out, every single day of the year. This campaign has provided the public with the opportunity to say “thank you” by nominating their #HGVHeroes.

There is no getting away from the fact that since March of this year we have all been touched, in one way or another, by Covid-19, but what is incredible is that as half of the circa 500k registered lorries stood parked up; all of the food, PPE and essential supplies were still delivered. The UK’s transport and logistics industry employs over 2.5million people, to list each job would take forever but they include the drivers that transport the goods from A to B. The warehouse staff that load the trucks, the transport office staff that organise the deliveries and not forgetting the van drivers that often take the goods to their final destination.

These are the people that deserve our thanks for keeping our lives as near to normal as possible. Self-isolators who have still had their groceries delivered to their doorstep. Frontline health workers who have been able to stock up at their supermarkets. Hospitals and care homes that have been able to access the critical PPE equipment. All of us, in one way or another, has relied on a HGV Hero.

We’ve received hundreds and hundreds of nominations for individuals and teams who have all gone the extra mile to make life that little bit easier for everyone.

Many nominees have told us how surprised they are to have been nominated, the majority saying, “I was just doing my job”.

But the thanks for doing a magnificent job don’t just come from the RHA. Secretary of State for Transport, The Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP is so thrilled and indebted to the industry he agreed to have his name featured on the certificate of recognition and appreciation that will go to each and every nominee.

The #HGVHeroes campaign has been seen by hundreds of thousands of people, one nominee was even visited by his local MP (all socially distanced of course), who wanted to personally say thank you. We trust that as the general public becomes more aware of the amazing work the industry performs, that next year we will have even more #HGVHeroes certificates to give out.

A huge thank you from the RHA to all those nominated and to all those who took part, nominating, liking, re-tweeting and sharing and simply letting our #HGVHeroes know just how much they are appreciated. We couldn’t have done this without you.
