DVS – Grace period likely to be six months

Following release of papers today in advance of a crucial London Councils meeting next week, a proposal is being put forward to extend the Direct Vision Standard (DVS) grace period to six months from 28 October.

We understand that Transport for London are recommending that hauliers operating in the capital should have an extra three months to get their lorries compliant with the new standard.

If this is approved, enforcement of the new Progressive Safe System (PSS) will begin from 4 May 2025. The new standard is launched on 28 October 2024.

Councillors are meeting on Thursday (18 July) at the London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee’s AGM where a decision is expected on the recommendation. More on this here: https://lnkd.in/eF5wUQ6D

We are currently studying the papers that have been published and will keep you updated.

We have recently published a DVS Explainer document produced by the new standard’s authors Loughborough University to help firms better understand what they need to do to comply: https://bit.ly/DVSExp.

We are also hosting an event at our Worldwide House HQ on Monday 22 July with Loughborough where operators can find out more first-hand about what kit should and shouldn’t do.
