RHA meet MPs to discuss GB-NI trade

We were delighted to meet with the new Chair of the Northern Ireland Select Committee, Tonia Antoniazzi MP, alongside some of our Northern Ireland members and a range of MPs in Parliament today. We also held meetings with Tom Duke (Deputy Director Department for Business and Trade ) and Baroness Ritchie in the House of Lords.

Alongside our members, we discussed the challenges faced by hauliers when it comes to GB-NI and NI-GB trade, particularly the lack of HMRC guidance on the movement of parcels due to come into force on 30 September, the ongoing issues with the Trader Support Service and more.

In the past two years, there has been a 30% drop in goods moved in Northern Ireland and businesses are feeling the impact.

We'll continue seek clarity on behalf of our members and we'll ensure the new Government fully understands the scale of the outstanding issues.

We  stand ready to work with Ministers and MPs to ensure hauliers have clear guidance as they prepare for these new changes.

Earlier this week we also welcomed the NI Executive’s
commitment to growing the economy in their new draft Programme For Government. Supporting the overall road transport sector is critical to its stated priority and to supporting the wider economy.
