RHA welcomes £1.1bn Scottish trunk road investment

The Scottish Government’s Budget, and the announcement of nearly £1.1 billion to ensure our trunk road network is well maintained and enhanced, is very welcome news.
Road freight moves 89% of all goods and 98% of agricultural and food products across the UK. Almost 100 million tonnes of goods every year are transported to destinations across Scotland by the haulage industry. We keep Scotland’s businesses trading.
This additional investment will see progress on major road projects, including dualling the A9 and improving the A83. These are vital links for many HGV, van and coach companies operating in Scotland today. There is no mention of the A75, A77 or A82, which are also vital parts of a network of roads, which we hope will be considered in the very near future.
As we head to the elections in Scotland in May, the RHA will be putting forward bold, practicable and long-term proposals to build on this positive work. Whichever party or parties make up the new government, the RHA will play its part in a spirit of collaboration, positivity and pragmatism to deliver for our sector and for Scotland.
