The summer’s trade shows and events have delivered new vehicles, fresh initiatives, policy debates and calls for action. August’s issue covers them all, together with a series of pre-show reveals by OEMs prior to the IAA Transportation event in Hannover in September. There is a lot going on, and not all of it is electric.

Roadway’s international coverage this month extends from Europe, and the continuing efforts to make the European Entry/Exit System (EES) workable, to China, with an article revealing an uncomfortable truth that Chinese hauliers are coming for the European haulage trade, a move founded on the market reality that all those electric trucks across Europe will need batteries – from China.

Closer to home, there is report on the current state of the warehousing market, which given the arrival of a new administration in Westminster, has a lot to say about tax. There is also coverage of this year’s National Lorry Week, and the launch of the RHA’s Wellbeing Charter – and its ten-year programme for welfare and health improvement across the industry. There are details of September’s Future Forum in Birmingham and the upcoming Autumn Briefings for members which start their UK-wide progress in the East Midlands in October. There is a reminder of the work of the Association’s Specialist Groups, and an inspiring story of a 232-mile cycle ride, completed all in one day, on behalf of the RHA Benevolent Fund.
