Roadway: October issue out now!

Roadway takes a close look at cost and value this month. Ahead of the Autumn Budget, as fuel prices rise due to wars in the Middle East, there are calls by the Association for the Chancellor to reconsider the hikes in fuel tax expected in 2027. A single line from RHA MD Richard Smith draws the obvious conclusion: “Almost everything on supermarket shelves got there on a lorry. When diesel goes up that cost has nowhere to go but on to the price of goods.” And recent RHA polling shows the public agree.
Controlling costs is also a theme running through our special feature on tyres, which concludes that buying cheap will cost you in the long run, and that TCO should be a concern when running tyres as much as anything else.
The October issue also sees the annual request for members to engage with the RHA’s annual haulage movement survey. Details have gone out to members and the closing date for responses is Friday 16 October. Roadway will publish the results in the new year.
We include details of the latest development in the Truck Cartel case, the dates and venues of the free Member Briefings which begin their Autumn run across the nations this month, and news of National Coach Week. We have a road test comparing DAF’s 480 and 530 and continuing our technical coverage news from the IAA Transportation Show in Hannover. Though as the event takes place as we’re going press, we leave our main reports until November.
