We need a road network that's fit for purpose

Travelling across the UK, I'm constantly reminded that road transport touches every corner of daily life. Materials for new homes and buildings, stocking shelves, medical supplies to hospitals, furniture for classrooms, essential transport to schools and colleges – our vehicles deliver it all. Our sector is the thread connecting communities across the country every single day.

Here's the reality: a modern economy demands modern infrastructure.
The frictionless movement of goods and people on our roads allows businesses to grow, local economies to thrive, and new industries and jobs to be created. A threat to the reliability of the road network is ultimately a threat to the nation's economic recovery and long-term commercial prospects.

Our road network, both locally and nationally – needs serious, long-term investment, not sticking plasters. We need road project plans green-lit earlier and spades in the ground much sooner. This isn't a luxury; it's essential for efficient supply chains serving communities nationwide.

As the largest trade body representing HGV, coach and van operators, we're actively campaigning for UK and devolved governments, and local authorities to maintain and extend their commitments to road investment – across strategic, major, and local road networks.

When we meet with decision-makers, our message is clear: Our sector is vital to daily life. Our businesses are community lifelines keeping Britain moving. To continue doing so effectively, we need real support. Better roads aren't just a priority for our key industry – they're investments in Britain's economic backbone and the communities we serve.
