Roller Road Brake Testing Accreditation

The Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness states that by 2025 there will be an expectation that operators will ensure that all safety inspections include Roller Road Brake Testing or EBPMS.

IRTE Roller Road Brake Testing Accreditation is suitable for HGV, Trailer, and PSV Vehicle / Trailer Inspection Technicians.

The training & tests are provided by Blyth Automotive Solutions & Training in Partnership with the certificates issued by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI)

 

Course Content

To enable each candidate to pass the Accreditation each candidate will need to demonstrate the following.

  • Understand the dtp number.
  • The Correct Vehicle Preparation
  • Safe and Correct use of the Brake Tester
  • Understand the report and feedback on the findings of the report.
  • Held on customers premises

 

Course Duration Half-day (up to 4 people)

  • 2-Hour Training Course (Classroom)
  • ½ Hour Online Theory Test (20 questions)
  • ½ Hour Practical Roller Brake Testing (Workshop)

 

Practical Assessment 

For the practical assessment the candidates will need to demonstrate the following.

  • Understand the dtp number·  
  • The correct vehicle preparation
  • Safe and correct use of the Brake Tester ·  
  • Understand the report and feedback on the findings of the report.  

 

The qualification will establish that the candidate(s) have the knowledge and competency to undertake a rolling road brake test on heavy goods vehicles, heavy trailers, coaches, and buses, understand the importance of a good brake test result and how that effects road safety and the operators’ responsibilities.

 
Required Equipment 

The candidate must have access to a calibrated Roller Road Brake Tester, a rigid vehicle with a GVW of at least 7500Kgs or semi-trailer loaded to at least 65% of the design axle weights. Tractor units can be used for the qualification but must be coupled to a loaded trailer.

Upon successful completion, each candidate will be registered with IMI.

Certificates usually supplied 4-5 weeks following successful completion.
