About the RHA

The Road Transport Industry is a dynamic, business critical sector upon which the UK economy depends. 85% of goods transported within the UK are carried by road.

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) is the only UK trade association dedicated solely to the needs of UK road transport operators. It is the voice of the road haulage profession, a champion of its interests and a respected partner to the broader logistics community.

The RHA’s best in class operations, intelligence and communication aid the public’s understanding of the road haulage profession. It provides its members with advice, information and guidance; up-to-the-minute research and a code of conduct to enhance their professional stature. A highly valued benefit of membership is the RHA’s award winning Roadway Magazine.

The RHA enables its members’ compliance and seeks to facilitate improved business performance through its comprehensive portfolio of essential products and services including training, legal services and insurance. The RHA also offers the largest online shop dedicated to road transport.

A proactive and highly respected lobbying function gives RHA members the opportunity to shape those policies that impact on their livelihood. The RHA works hard to be at the heart of a professional and diverse road haulage industry that organisations, government and the public understand and value.

Our vital statistics

Across the UK the RHA employs 104 staff dedicated to supporting our membership.

The RHA declared a turnover for all activities of £8.8 million in 2014.

We represent more than 6,000 member companies operating around 80,000 HGVs. These are micro, SME and large operators, including 82 of the Motor Transport Top 100 transport contractors. Of the transport companies applying to the Department for Transport for permits to participate in the innovative longer semi-trailer trial, 80% were RHA members. Our road transport experts deal with more than 10,000 calls a year, assisting our members to operate in a compliant and efficient way.

The RHA offers effective manager and driver training courses, all of which are ISO-accredited. For example, in 2014, the RHA took more than 700 candidates through its 10-day course in preparation for the Manager CPC examination. That is thought to be around 15% of the total. The RHA consistently achieves pass rates well above the national average for this essential qualification. The RHA is also a co-owner of the industry’s premier annual event, the Commercial Vehicle Show.
