Abnormal Loads Group

The Abnormal Loads Group is for members who specialise in the transport of wide, long or heavy loads, which require special markings, possible attendants or need to be escorted.

Some of these movements may fall within the C&U Regulations but many may well be subject to a Special Type General Order.

The group brings members together to share common experiences and to help them operate safely within the confines of the abnormal loads rules including information exchange regarding road works, restrictions and liaison with other bodies in the interests of safety.

The group maintains formal and informal communications with government and its agencies and with other representative trade bodies, including the Association of Chief Police Officers or equivalent, the Highways Agency, Network Rail, British Waterways, bridge and structure owners and local authorities.

The group will work through the secretary and its elected committee, which meets about three times a year, or as required.

The fee for joining the group is £20+VAT per annum.

To discuss the group in further detail, contact Malcolm Dodds, the group secretary on 01274 863100 or email at: m.dodds@rha.uk.net.
