Great to see the Minister for the Future of Roads supporting National Lorry Week

Our Managing Director Richard Smith reflects on meeting the Minister for the Future of Roads and how economic growth will rely on HGVs.

This National Lorry Week I had the opportunity to meet with the Minister for the Future of Roads, Lilian Greenwood at the excellent ADS Truck Parking in Stoke. ADS is a good example of what quality safe parking and facilities can look like, and we welcome investment such as this. I’ll be talking about the importance of investing in safe facilities for our drivers in more detail next week.

This is the latest in a series of meetings I’ve had with Ministers and this engagement will continue in the weeks ahead on behalf of our members. As an association, we’ve been making the point that our industry is ready to drive growth across the country as we’re an economic enabler that households and businesses rely on every day. That's been evident all week during National Lorry week with a wide range of businesses getting involved and showcasing the depth of services and talent we have in firms in all parts of the United Kingdom. Thank you all.

However, it’s important to say that the Government’s vision for growth won’t be realised without supporting HGV, LGV and Coach businesses across a sector that contributes billions to the economy, is key to daily life and is crucial to the economy. As we await further details from Government on their plans, we’ll continue to make these points and more when meeting policy makers. Partnership and collaboration between industry and government at all levels remains key.

You can read my latest viewpoint editorial for Motor Transport below - where I go into much more detail about what the budget meant for businesses and the importance of supporting our vital sector.
