National Lorry Week is a chance to celebrate the people who keep the UK moving every day and to shine a spotlight on the opportunities available across road transport and logistics.
This year's theme, "The road that connects everything", highlights the vital role the sector plays in supporting businesses, communities and supply chains across the country. From food and medicine to fuel, clothing and online deliveries, almost everything we buy, use or rely on has spent time on a truck.
As the industry looks to the future, attracting more people into logistics remains a key priority - including encouraging more women to consider careers behind the wheel.
Women currently make up only a small proportion of the UK's HGV driver workforce, but businesses across the sector are working to change that by promoting driving as a rewarding, skilled and long-term career.
One business helping to champion this is Sysco GB, the nation’s largest foodservice provider.
Operating a fleet of more than 2,000 vehicles, Sysco GB delivers to businesses across Britain, from the Highlands of Scotland to the beaches of Cornwall. The company employs more than 40 female HGV drivers, alongside a number of female van drivers, helping demonstrate that driving careers are open to everyone.
Drivers are at the heart of the operation, ensuring food reaches restaurants, pubs, schools, hospitals and workplaces every day. They are often the face of the business and play a vital role in delivering excellent service to customers across the country.
Sysco GB is committed to encouraging more women into logistics and driving roles, promoting career opportunities across the business and showcasing female role models already working within the industry.
National Lorry Week provides an opportunity to celebrate these success stories and highlight the talented women already helping keep Britain moving.
By showcasing real people and real careers, the industry can help inspire the next generation of drivers and build a stronger, more diverse workforce for the future.
Encouraging more women to consider careers in logistics is not just about improving representation - it's about ensuring the industry continues to attract the skills and talent it needs to support businesses, communities and supply chains for years to come.
