Decarbonisation policy for commercial vehicles

The RHA has released its latest decarbonisation policy for commercial vehicles, highlighting that low carbon fuels can play a critical role on the journey to Net Zero.
The document, titled Eliminate-Minimise-Offset, outlines a number of critical asks to the UK Government, ensuring a just transition for the road transport sector and a realistic timeline for the decarbonisation of commercial vehicle fleets.
We believe the call for government and industry to support the use of low carbon fuels, such as HVO, is a positive interim step towards Net Zero. However, this should be accompanied with an assessment of the whole carbon lifecycle of vehicles, as we believe focusing on zero tailpipe alone distorts accountability.
The policy comes ahead of the Low Carbon Fuels Strategy due to be released by the UK Government later this year and as the RHA sets out its Environment Campaign – one of the three core campaigns for the Association, alongside Skills and Facilities.
