Our letter to Mayor Andy Burnham on Manchester's CAZ

30 Jun 2021 Posted By Josh Reynolds

We have written to the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, to register our continued concerns over the recently published Clean Air Zone proposals for Manchester.

Citing the disproportionate area of the CAZ, and the ruinous impacts to small businesses unable to benefit for the limited financial support available, we have suggested alternative ways to achieve the clean air we all want.

Chris Ashley, our head of environment and regulation policy, said: “The decision by the Mayor to press on with the Clean Air Zone is a hammer-blow to small businesses struggling to recover from the Covid pandemic.

Better ways exist to achieve the clean air we all want, and the RHA has written to put forward positive alternatives such targeted interventions to retire the most polluting vehicles.”
