Dangerous Goods by Air Course

This is the initial course for those who will carry dangerous goods in packages only. The course lasts for 4-days and covers the core, packages, and classes elements.Moving dangerous goods by road is governed by international law and is strictly policed.

Our Dangerous Goods courses have been designed to ensure that you are qualified in line with the requirements contained in the European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR). Candidates will complete practical assessment in emergency actions, First Aid, and basic firefighting. Drivers will be examined in core, packages and hazard classes 2,3,4,5,6,8 and 9 (referred to as all classes).

Exams and assessments are conducted during the training with results issued at the end of the course. .

During the guided learning sessions there are opportunities to complete stage tests and learning activity that will enhance your understanding of the subject matters. Materials are supplied for each candidate for use on the course and as a handy reference guide afterwards.

These are either downloaded from our online training platform or given directly to the candidates. .

All courses are subject to an Exam fee this will be calculated at time of booking, this course has five exams and each exam is £20, exams are exempt VAT.

This course can count for up to 21 hours of the driver CPC qualification.


Dangerous Goods examinations and training are conducted by centres approved by the Department for Transport. The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) regulates centres, courses, and examinations on behalf of the department.

On passing Dangerous Goods Driver Training exams candidates will be issued a Vocational Training Certificate (VTC) allowing them to transport dangerous goods in the classes and modes they have passed, course lengths vary depending on which VTC you wish to gain.
The Dangerous Goods by Air course is designed for delegates who offer (The Shipper) or accept (The Operator) consignments of Dangerous Goods by Air. The course is approved by the Civil Aviation authority and is based on the ICAO and IATA Regulations. The course is conducted in such a manner that delegates will easily grasp the concepts being taught, and time will be allocated to practice what has been learnt. Delegates employed within the oil and gas sector can participate in the combined examination (combined Shipper / Acceptance exam). During the course, delegates will participate in various written exercises which are designed in such a way that they follow a natural progression towards the afternoon of day 3 where a written examination will be conducted. The written examination is allocated by the Civil Aviation Authority and on successful completion an approved certificate will be issued.

Delegates employed within the oil and gas sector can participate in the combined examination (combined Shipper / Acceptance exam).

Exam Access Arrangements

Exam candidates with physical disabilities, learning disabilities or other special needs may be entitled to special arrangements. PLEASE NOTE THAT ENTRIES FOR EXAMINATIONS WILL BE MADE ON YOUR BEHALF.

Course fees are payable at time of booking and examination fees paid to SQA on your behalf are not refundable.
