State of Roads and Speed Limits Discussed at Welsh Forum

This week saw our Welsh Forum meet at the Holiday Inn Chester. The subject of infrastructure investment in the north was one of a number of hot topics with the consensus view being that despite the planned investment in the Anglesey Freeport, the condition of the surrounding roads and lack of facilities in the area will negate the good work planned for the area.

Head of Aviation, Ports and Logistics for the Welsh Government Jonathon Moody noted feedback from the members in attendance and agreed to relay these views to senior officials.

Jonathon explained that there is a commitment from the Welsh Government to consult businesses on the default 20mph speed limit implemented in Wales.

Members were keen to point out that no-one objects to 20mph limits in areas where there are schools, housing and high amounts of accidents. However, many roads that have been changed have none of these.

As always, the discussions and debate was constructive and the relationship between our sector and the civil service and political world grows ever closer. The next meeting will be in South Wales in March where the Government will go over the Welsh Government’s Freight & Logistics Plan and take questions from our road freight members and our ever-growing coach membership
