The HGV parking facility, provided by the Welsh Government at Holyhead, is to re-open on 13 May, as announced today via Welsh Government website
The facility was temporarily closed at the end of March due to "budgetary pressures."
Commenting on this news, RHA Regional Operations manager, Rhys Williams said:
“We welcome this decision from the Welsh Government to re-open the HGV parking facility at Holyhead and it's a decision that will be welcomed by many of our members, operators and drivers. Drivers arriving in Holyhead desperately need rest and welfare facilities, which has been exacerbated since the closure of the Roadking facility. This is a positive step and will help relieve some of the pressure on the remaining truck stop.
"Holyhead Port is the second largest Ro-Ro ferry port in the UK, yet there are no dedicated HGV facilities along the entire length of the A55, leaving drivers vulnerable and at risk to freight crime, from being forced to rest in the few laybys on the route.
"There remains a shortage of safe HGV parking here and across the country and we need to see more truck-stops being built with stronger security and better driver facilities. It's important for decision makers locally and nationally to continue to engage and work collaboratively with our industry to simplify planning when developing new and improving existing sites.
"The RHA will continue to call for more safer parking and improved driver facilities through our RHA Facilities campaign."
