Today we were delighted to join the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Freight and Logistics who have successfully completed their AGM. It brings together parliamentarians and stakeholders from across the UK, to highlight the importance of the Freight and Logistics sector to the UK economy.
During the APPG, Chair Rachel Taylor MP retained unanimous support for her continuation as Chair, as did Lord Taylor as Vice Chair. Meanwhile Antonia Bance MP and Ian Roome MP were elected as Vice Chairs for the first time.
We're proud to fund the work of the APPG and look forward to another year of events in Parliament. Next year the APPG will continue its focus on Freight Crime and Skills whilst also hosting events on international trade and alternative fuels.
Following the AGM’s completion we were delighted to be invited to present on the launch of the APPG’s Delivering Inclusion report. The report highlights the work that industry and government need to do to address shortages in the sector, and it highlights four key areas, facilities, working patterns, culture and training routes.
Commenting on the report, Chair of the APPG, Rachel Taylor MP said:
"Diversity and inclusion is good for business, and the freight and logistics sector is beginning to recognise the value of opening their doors to women, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ people, those with disabilities, veterans, and people returning to work or changing careers. Our report demonstrates how greater inclusion can help the industry tackle some of its greatest challenges, and shows the practical steps both government and industry should take to build a more diverse, inclusive, and thriving workforce."
Ferdy Willans, RHA Public Affairs Manager commented:
"We are delighted that our APPG retained support of parliamentarians of all parties so that it can continue to be the voice of sector within Parliament. The election of Antonia and Ian reinforces the group’s wide political reach and geographically diverse membership. We are also incredibly grateful to the 22 businesses, trade associations and trade unions who took part in providing evidence which allowed us to produce a new report. It is clear that addressing labour shortages will require a stronger effort to promote logistics as a sector with opportunities for everyone."
