Driver CPC – make sure your drivers are up to date

The deadline to complete the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) training for many is Monday 9 September 2024, according to the Department for Transport.
DfT expects a high demand this year because this year is the 15th anniversary of the Driver CPC and each qualification has an expiry date of five years.
To make sure your drivers can find training in time, DfT are asking operators to encourage those with Driver CPC’s nearing expiry to check that they have completed the mandatory 35 hours of periodic training well before the 9 September deadline, or risk losing their qualification.
DfT has said ‘Data shows that lots of drivers leave their training until the last six months. In 2019, there were, on average, five times more training hours done a month compared to the same time in the previous year.’
If your drivers miss their training deadline they cannot drive professionally until they finish their training, and they could be fined up to £1,000 for driving professionally without a Driver CPC.
