Haulier and social media influencer Becky Giles passed her Transport Manager CPC with RHA training this month.
Becky isn’t your average influencer. Growing up in her family’s livestock business, the young transport manager has always had a passion for commercial transport, which comes across in her growing YouTube presence. With uploads chronicling the daily life of livestock haulage, she boasts over one million followers across all social media platforms.
I’ve been around it my whole life. Granddad bought St Mary's Livestock and it stayed in the Market Harborough Area for around 100 years. Then dad got involved, he used to take me on a booster seat on his deliveries.
During her time in the industry, she discovered her passion for sharing the daily happenings of livestock transport.
Like everybody, I started my TikTok during the pandemic because there was nothing else to do. At first, I thought, ‘I'll just log in and I'll make an account, and I'll just watch videos.’ That didn't happen. I posted one video, and it did well.
I then did one on the lorry and then it went quite big. I did like a Day in the Life, and it got over 10,000 likes. I thought ‘Oh, this is quite good’. It started from there and then quite a lot of my followers began to say I needed to start a YouTube channel and do vlogs, because I'm in a bit of a different industry, you don't see many livestock hauliers on social media.
Becky, who learned how to operate a HGV from a young age, opted to choose RHA training for her Transport Manager CPC course in Peterborough.
If anything ever happened to my dad I’d be able to take over and it would be business as usual. I felt the pressure. I didn’t want to let him or my followers down.
It was hard work, and I had big headaches when I came out of it. There's so much stuff you must learn off by heart.
I'm dyslexic. So that was another thing that is very important to me, that dyslexic people can do it and yes, it is going to be harder for them, but if you work hard, you get the results that you want to get.
Becky had high praise for the RHA training team in Peterborough, remarking how they went the extra mile for all of their pupils…
Pete was an absolutely amazing instructor. He helped every single one of us. If we had a question, he danced to it. Anybody that wanted to stay behind, stayed behind with us to give us a bit of extra help. They gave us his number and email to use if we were struggling at home. We did Thursdays and Fridays in the classroom and then had the week off.
We could always get in contact with him throughout the week if we had any questions. If we did extra case studies, he'd send us the answers for us. He was brilliant. I couldn't think of a better teacher.
Becky’s trainer in question, Pete Featherstone, had high praise for his pupil…
She was very hard working on our course. Any homework, anything that she was given, she pretty much tackled all the tasks.
I offered to stay behind whenever any of the students wanted help with anything, and she asked on a Friday afternoon. I thought ‘Right, well I can’t say no’.
Becky’s Transport Manager CPC class received 100% pass rate thanks to the dedication of RHA Training staff.
Because of her unique position as an influencer, Becky has been able to act as an ambassador for haulage as a career option to young people, something that Pete hopes will entice more young people to enter haulage…
It’s great. What she does is she shows our side, the office side. It shows that there’s more than one career path in the industry. She’s showing her followers that you can end up as a transport manager, running your own business, all sorts of stuff. It helps they’re showing more than just driving. She’s also showing off the fun side, which is great publicity.
Echoing her mentor’s sentiments, Becky remarked how her social media presence has helped people make the leap into the transport industry…
I’ve had so many messages saying that I've inspired them to take their CPC. While I was doing the course I had a lot of people messaging me saying that they're going to take their CPC because they know now what it's like and they know what to expect.
