Responding to evidence given to a Stormont Commitee by the Mineral Products Association (MPA) in Northern Ireland that the Northern Ireland roads network is facing "its biggest funding crisis in 25 years", RHA Policy Lead for Northern Ireland, John Martin said:
"The Northern Ireland road network connects our towns, cities, communities and businesses, so maintaining our road network is essential in enabling businesses - including the manufacturing and agri-food sectors to transport goods to and from key markets safely, efficiently and on time.
"We must ensure our infrastructure is resourced, safe and fit for purpose. Proper investment in the maintenance and upkeep of the road network is vital.
We support MPA NI in calling for investment."
The plea from the MPA warned politicians of the serious implications on road safety and road reliability if additional funding is not found urgently.
These warnings come ahead of Stormont's October monitoring round which is expected next month.
These monitoring rounds provide a system to review NI Executive spending plans and are usually held three times a year, in January, June and October.
