This month’s Roadway covers the problems of freight crime and engine emissions this month, but explores the broader approaches being taken to solve what have become to be regarded as insoluble issues.

Freight crime costs hundreds of millions but is still largely a crime of opportunity. Our feature explores the idea of taking that opportunity away. Building more secure parking spaces and ensuring road planning includes safe places have the potential to mitigate the risk: planning and development go hand in hand with enforcement and crime intelligence efforts. The work to reduce engine emissions is fast becoming the work to find an electric power socket – almost by default. We explore the ICE technologies OEMs are still developing, as the means to keep wheels and goods on the road, while operators of the same mind are investing in those technologies, with increasing numbers matching them with HVO, as a viable transitional fuel to whichever Net Zero future wins the economic race.

We also feature a review of the latest Renault Master van, news on tacho requirements for coach drivers, and news from the RHA Benevolent Fund.

The RHA Member Briefings begin their Spring progress across the UK in March, and we include a full schedule and venue details, with the reminder to book early.
