The Congestion Charging scheme for London has changed with an increased daily charge of £18 and a new tiered Cleaner Vehicle Discount for electric vehicles.
The daily Congestion Charge is now:
- £18 if paid on the day of travel or in advance
- £21 if paid within 3 days after travel
The previous 100% Cleaner Vehicle Discount has ended with a new tiered system of discounts. The discounts are only available for electric vehicles registered for Auto Pay.
New discount details:
- 25% discount on the daily charge for electric cars registered on Auto Pay
- 50% discount on the daily charge for electric vans, HGVs, and quadricycles registered on Auto Pay
This means the daily charge is £13.50 for electric cars instead of £18, and £9 for electric vans, HGVs, and quadricycles instead of £18. The discounted charge is only available for electric vehicles on Auto Pay. If the vehicle isn't registered for Auto Pay, the discounted charge will not apply.
Only electric cars, vans, HGVS and quadricycles are eligible for the new Cleaner Vehicle Discount. Other electric vehicle, like buses, coaches and minibuses may be eligible for a different , like the 9+ seater discount.
Future changes
As the eligible vehicle numbers are expected to grow over time the discount level will reduce. From 4 March 2030:
- 12.5% discount for electric cars on for Auto Pay
- 25% discount for electric vans, HGVs and quadricycles on Auto Pay
