Last year we became the first organisation in the country to receive official Diabetes Safe accreditation from the Diabetes Safety Organisation.
We were very proud of this recognition as we are fully committed to understanding and managing diabetes-related risks across our sector; it’s a hidden but significant risk with research showing that professional drivers are twice as likely to develop type 2 diabetes.
Left unmanaged it can compromise safety, shorten careers and increase liability for businesses. Yet with the right knowledge and support, drivers with diabetes can remain safe, healthy and productive.
We were pleased to work with the DSO to produce Diabetes Safe Driving: Guidance for Employers. It clearly sets out what diabetes means in a driving context, what your responsibilities are as an employer, and the practical steps you can take to reduce risk and support your people.
We’re serious about supporting our members on the health challenges that matter most to our industry. In the summer we’re launching a 10-year Wellbeing Charter for the coach, truck and van sectors. Meanwhile, please read our Diabetes Safe Driving Guidance for Employers: https://bit.ly/4sv5YZV
