On Friday 27th March the Road Haulage Association (RHA) launch’s its Payload Loss Survey Report—shining a light on a challenge that impacts operators, supply chains, and the wider economy around the electrification of HGV’s . This document is a platform for discussion, further collaboration and policy making to facilitate further decarbonisation, at a time when the world is focused increasingly on energy security and efficiency.

Payload loss isn’t just about inefficiency. It affects safety, costs, compliance, and environmental performance across the road freight sector. At a time when margins are tight and expectations are rising, understanding these pressures has never been more important.

This report brings together real industry insight to help inform practical discussion, better policy, and stronger collaboration across the sector. We believe the figures to be a good technical benchmark and gives a solid base to move decisions forward and was informed by input from operators and vehicle dealers.

At the RHA, we’re committed to ensuring the voices of our members and industry is heard—and that the data drives meaningful change. Further work needs to continue in this area with a matter of urgency along with knowledge sharing and a pragmatic view of the future. We need a clear plan.

This report builds on the industry representative Future of Fleets report released last year.
