Controlling rising fuel costs is a focus in this issue, as international crises once again derail efforts to make work pay. The Association is making a strong case for fuel duty rebates and the scrapping of a proposed increase in fuel duty coming our way in just 5 months. We follow the story.
As diesel prices soar, we look at some of the alternatives this month. We seek to answer some questions over the efficiency of running on CNG, in our Scania R460 road test, and the cost of running an electric HGV when you’re not just hauling a load, but the weight of the batteries as well. The RHA has published an excellent report on this payload loss problem, and we have a feature and a Q&A with two of the Association’s experts instrumental in producing it.
We also cover the problems now being experienced by operators trying to work in Europe as the Schengen 90/180 rule and EES system make the impact on cross-border business everyone warned about.
Our article highlights the point that moving goods and digital technology are now inextricably linked, and we have articles on the operational implications; in the traffic office with our Transport Management Systems feature, and in the cab, with its own close look at what using Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning cameras mean for drivers and their employers.
