In this issue we preview National Lorry Week 2025, which takes place across the country at the beginning of November. We include details and the ways you and your business can get involved. November ends with the Chancellor’s Budget. The Association has prepared for the onset of what is likely to herald major changes to our finances with a series of submissions and reports, and warnings, particularly over the implications of fuel duty hikes, both to the haulage industry and the wider UK economy.
The Association has also been active across the issues of skills shortages, training, and border enforcement, and we include coverage of all these developments.
Used trucks are a focus this month, with a feature on the used market, and a growing trend of repurposing diesel trucks to electric drive. Other means of achieving zero emissions of course is to buy your eHGV from new, and we have a test drive of DAF’s latest electric range.
For those who think Net Zero is just for other people, we include an article from Chris Ashley, the lead of the RHA’s Net Zero Forum, arguing that the transition must be operator-led, not enforced by the technology. Which means investment, which brings us back inevitably to the Budget on 26 November.
