The RHA Future Forum event is our focus of attention in this issue, with a four-page report on the presentations and panel discussions that made the day an essential in September’s business calendar.

Opinions on the day ranged across topics including the financial viability of electric trucks and the veracity of the government’s decarbonisation policies to the promotion of HVO and the progress being made to make freight crime a recognised offence. There were also extensive discussions on skills training, recruitment and retention.

Business and trade with Europe is also a subject of interest this month. At issue is the introduction of the EU’s Entry/Exit System and the impact it will have on hauliers and coach operators. We provide details of the RHA’s work in dealing with the scourge of the late payments, highlighting the need for a constructive approach from government. We also publish the Association’s response to the government’s latest road investment strategy (RIS3).

As we move into the last quarter of the year, this issue offers two features which present views on the state of the industry. If you want to know where we are right now you can’t do much worse than ask people who run compliance schemes. and rent trucks.
