A special dinner event for Transaid at Glasgow’s Bothwell Bridge Hotel has raised a six-figure sum for the RHA's chosen charity.

The evening began with a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth who had always regarded Scotland with much affection.

This was followed by an address given by the Transaid Board of Trustees Chair (and past Scottish Traffic Commissioner), Joan Aitken OBE FCILT.

Other speakers included former Scottish sprinting world champion George McNeill, who entertained guests with a whirlwind tour of his sporting career.

The whole event was a tremendous success and was well supported by businesses and individuals. Key sponsors for the night were RHA members The Malcolm Group and John Mitchell Haulage & Storage. Other supporters were Marsh and, of course, the RHA, represented by RHA MD Richard Smith and Training Manager for Scotland, Brian Kenny.

The evening culminated in the presentation of a cheque for £105,110 to Joan Aitken and Transaid Head of Fundraising, Florence Bearman.

Commenting, RHA MD Richard Smith said: “I am immensely proud of our close links with Transaid.

“We have supported them for many years and that’s due in no small part to the fact that they are a great team to work with and I look forward to continuing our association for a long time to come.”
