RHA Flag Cybersecurity Risks to Transport Industry

The RHA urges industry stakeholders to stay up to date with cybersecurity.

RHA Head of IT Stephen Hards highlighted to Motor Transport and Bosch Cyber Compare attendees how various factors including working with third parties can be a risk to cyber security.

‘Our own infrastructures and those of our business partners must be secure. Software providers must be secure’ he told those in attendance.

‘The lack of available funds for cyber security makes securing our industry’s systems that much harder.’

Stephen provided six steps in which operators can eliminate risk of cyberattacks:

  • Education – a workforce that knows the risks are more likely to make smart decisions
  • Regular independent audits – the goalposts in cybersecurity are constantly moving. It’s important for experts to flag your organisation's weaknesses.
  • Partnering with specialists – having expert input can make or break cybersecurity.
  • Frequent reminders to colleagues to be vigilant
  • Stay up to date – are you running the latest version of software?
  • Have a plan – ‘Plan for the worst, hope for the best’

Stephen also noted that any firm is at risk of a cyber-attack no matter its size and to keep close track over who has system access to sensitive data.
