PCV Courses

If you are looking to upgrade to drive passenger carrying vehicles RHA have a package to get you driving quickly. As with LGV driving if needed we can arrange all of the elements and training for you. As a minimum you will need to complete the following steps before moving on to the training for each type of vehicle.

• PSV medical
Before the candidate can drive as a learner, they will need to pass a Passenger Carrying Vehicle Driver Medical. The RHA can organise this for you or you can go to your own GP to have it carried out. You will need a D4 medical form which we will supply for you along with your booking.

• Apply for a provisional licence
Once you have completed the medical you will apply for provisional entitlement to drive. Please be aware that those applying to add PCV categories must also meet the standards laid down in the regulations for both professional and private conduct.

• Modules 1a & 1b Theory and Hazard Perception training & testing
These two modules must be passed before you can take the practical training and testing. They consist of a theory test on areas of road safety that apply to Passenger Carrying Vehicles and a Hazard Perception Test that examines the driver’s ability to recognise developing hazards using video footage. RHA will provide access to our online training platform and monitor progress as you carry out the training and mock testing. Once ready we will book the two tests as close to you as we can to minimise travel.
