Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor Course

Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor Course

Companies and undertakings who consign, load, store or transport dangerous goods by road, rail, or sea, must appoint one or more Dangerous Goods Safety Advisors (DGSA) to ensure compliance with the regulations.

The DGSA Course is designed for those delegates that are responsible for their company’s safe consignment, storage, and transportation of Dangerous Goods by Road Freight. Delegates will be taught how to navigate various Regulations, including the ADR and domestic Regulations. The course consists of an understanding of General Provisions (including security), Classification, Identification, Packaging, Marking and Labelling (incl: Packages, Containers, Tanks and Vehicles), Documentation and Equipment.

During the course, delegates will participate in various written exercises which are designed in such a way that they follow a natural progression towards the afternoon of day 6 where a final written practice examination will be conducted.

DGSA examinations are conducted by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) on behalf of the Department for Transport. All examinations are conducted at centres specified by SQA and consist written papers in Core, Mode of Transport and The Classes, elements of Dangerous Goods.

On passing DGSA exams, candidates will be issued a 5-year Vocational Training Certificate (VTC) allowing them to practice as a DGSA. The exams must be passed again on expiry if the individual wishes to continue as a DGSA.
