Freeze Fuel Duty to Support the Sector

The RHA recommended several ways the Chancellor can support haulage at the All-Party-Parliamentary Group on Road Freight and Logistics - Ferdy Willans reports

Yesterday we joined the APPG on Road Freight and Logistics to discuss ways to tackle the pressures facing the UK haulage industry ahead of this year’s Spring Budget.

The session highlighted the multifaceted challenges facing the UK haulage sector and emphasised the urgency for collaborative solutions. One of the key takeaways from the discussion a proactive approach to support the industry is needed.

In the upcoming Spring Budget on 6 March 2024, the APPG is calling for the Chancellor to support HGV, coach and van operators across the country who keep Britain moving. The APPG has recommended that the Chancellor:

- Continues the freeze on fuel duty and maintain the 5p cut and introduce an essential user rebate on fuel duty.

- Back businesses to invest in the future by introducing an emissions-linked rebate on fuel duty for alternative fuels and extend full expensing to the cost of vehicle leasing

Grateful for the meaningful contributions of our attendees, including Greg Smith MP, Rhys Hackling, Abbey Logistics Group, XPO Logistics, Rob Gearing, Reformation Logistics Ltd, and more.
