Birmingham: Ready for the Commonwealth Games?

22 Jun 2022 Posted By James Evison

During the Games, more than a million people will travel around the West Midland region to training and competition venues, impacting business travel in the area.

The Transport for West Midlands plan explains how it will make sure transport runs smoothly for everyone during this time.

VCS

The RHA is stating the key issue for anyone taking freight into or out of venues is it maybe beneficial to apply for the Vendor Certification Scheme.

It should be noted the VCS may not meet every member’s criteria, and so members may need to go to alternative sites for security checks. This will create time and cost issues as the site will be away from the city. Deliveries from non-VCS holders will be diverted to the Remote Vehicle Screening Site at the NEC.

It is expected that events on highways, such as marathons, running and cycling events will create the most disruption to traditional delivery schedules.

Information

Check the transport plan and the main “get set for the Games” information section on the Commonwealth Games website for information on the dates of these events – and when they will impact the roads.
