Easter donation – RHA staff deliver toys and chocolate to Peterborough children

RHA staff have donated 168 chocolate eggs and toys to children in Peterborough for Easter.

Compliance Sales Auditor, Kirsty Grant arranged the collection which she delivered to the Amazon Children’s Ward at Peterborough City Hospital and The Beeches Special Educational Centre.

Kirsty said she was inspired to collect the confectionary and toys by her nephew who has autism: “Seeing his daily troubles and worries of not feeling like a ‘normal child’ breaks my heart. Every child should be treated the same.

"Who loves chocolate more than children? As a mum it breaks my heart to think that there are children going through hard times who may not be lucky enough to receive a gift.”

She also arranged our Christmas foodbank donation and said that a big donation shouldn’t just be once a year. “I wanted to do something more than just waiting for Christmas to come around again.”

The Beeches provide specialist education and foster care to children with learning difficulties. The Amazon Children’s Ward at Peterborough City Hospital provides crucial healthcare services to acutely unwell children. It’s a 30 bedded unit including two high-dependency care beds and eight day surgery beds.

Zoe Wilkinson, Play Service Co-ordinator on Amazon Ward commented, “We are extremely grateful for the support we receive over the Easter period. The simple act of being able to gift our young patients with an Easter Egg really does help to bring joy to the Ward."

Kirsty added: “Giving an Easter donation will put a smile on their little faces. I have also thought of not just chocolate, but easter cuddly toys for the children who are either unable to have chocolate or even too young to have chocolate.”
