Let fully vaccinated truckers end self-isolation with a negative covid result, RHA urges Scotland’s First Minister

We’ve called on the Scotland’s First Minister to let fully vaccinated logistics staff come back to work with negative lateral flow results if they’ve been told to self-isolate.

Our Policy Director for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Martin Reid urged Nicola Sturgeon to replace self-isolation measures with lateral flow testing as a ‘low-risk option’ to keep trucks on the road.

Truckers self-isolating is putting more strain on a stretched workforce as the driver shortage crisis has hit 100,000 across the UK.

We argue that drivers spend the greatest proportion of their day alone in their cabs and only 0.02 per cent test positive for Covid according to the Department for Transport.

Martin wrote to the First Minister on behalf of the RHA’s Scotland and Northern Ireland Regional Council. Read the letter here
