MPs back RHA call to Chancellor on rising fuel prices

The RHA, backed by 40 senior cross-party parliamentarians, has written to Chancellor Rishi Sunak, urging the introduction of an essential user rebate of 15 pence per litre for hauliers and coach operators. Read the letter here.

The list of MPs includes the group leader of Plaid Cymru at the House of Commons, Liz Saville Roberts, Father of the House, Sir Peter Bottomley, Chair of the Commons Trade Committee, Angus McNeil, former Scotland Secretary David Mundell, former BEIS and DECC minister John Hayes and many other senior politicians.

The MPs have also asked the Chancellor to delay the removal of rebates for red diesel to protect vital businesses in the incredibly challenging operating environment they face.

The RHA is also calling for a cut in fuel duty to control escalating costs.

RHA Managing Director, Richard Smith, said: “The last fuel duty freeze was welcome but now the Chancellor must to go even further.

“Without a fuel duty rebate, hauliers and coach operators will be left with no alternative but to pass on increased costs to their customers adding to inflation – the brunt of which will faced by ordinary consumers.”
