The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is calling on operators to support its vital Apprentice Program. Launched in 2018, this initiative addresses the shortage of Vehicle Standards Assessors (VSAs) and aims to enhance testing capacity across the UK. Here’s why your participation is crucial:
The Vision
The DVSA Apprentice Program is designed to:
- Reduce the skills shortage in the vehicle standards sector.
- Improve recruitment by attracting new talent.
- Increase diversity within the industry.
- Educate and upskill the workforce.
Program Overview
The DVSA offers a fully funded, three-year apprenticeship program in collaboration with GTG College, Wolverhampton. This program is open to Green and Blue OCRS Operators and includes:
Block release training at GTG College and additional training at DVSA.
Workplace integration, with apprentices spending approximately 3 days per week at the operator’s site (when not on block release)
Why Participate?
Currently, fewer than 20 workshops are available for placing DVSA apprentices. By participating, operators can:
- Expand workshop availability and support the program’s growth.
- Benefit from DVSA knowledge and training, which can be shared internally.
- Gain additional staffing without increasing headcount.
Join in
Your support is essential to the success of the DVSA Apprentice Program. By participating, you will not only help address the skills shortage but also contribute to the future of the vehicle standards industry. Let’s work together to build a skilled, diverse, and sustainable workforce.
