RHA meets Rishi Sunak MP to discuss A66 upgrade

RHA Managing Director Richard Smith recently met Rishi Sunak MP to discuss the A66 dualling upgrade and key infrastructure investment.

The MP for Richmond and Northallerton is calling for the key road upgrade to go ahead saying: “Strong economic growth is essential for our country’s future and a properly upgraded A66 is vital to help businesses across the our region, and the UK as a whole, drive that growth.”



Commenting on the visit, Richard Smith said:


"It was a pleasure to welcome former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak MP to Bulk Logistics Group, a proud member of the RHA.
During the visit, we discussed the campaign to dual the A66 which is essential for unlocking economic growth, improving road safety, and ensuring reliable east-west connectivity for freight, tourism, and key to connecting communities across the North of England.

"The A66 is a vital for our sector, carrying over 80 million tonnes of cargo annually to the North West and Scotland. Investing in this project and getting spades in the ground is important to the long-term growth of the North and our national economy."


Upgrading this route will:


- Deliver £521 million in transport efficiency gains
- Save £477 million in travel time and operating costs
- Add £125 million in improved journey reliability
- Generate over £60 million in wider economic benefits
