Two thirds of drivers not satisfied with truck stop quality - RHA response

Transport Focus have this week released a survey calling on government and industry to work together to improve the quality and capacity of rest stops.

The survey found many facilities up and down the country where drivers said they didn’t feel welcome, safe or able to get a proper rest or a decent meal.

The RHA has long campaigned for more safe and secure parking and facilities for drivers and this important work continues to improve conditions for drivers.

This survey comes during #NationalLorryWeek which recognises the vital role of lorry drivers and the importance of the people and organisations out on the nation’s roads.

Commenting on the survey’s finding, RHA Public Affairs manager Ashton Cull said:

As it is National Lory Week, it’s right for us to think about the facilities we are asking our drivers to use as they travel across the country, doing the job that we all rely on them to do.

While we congratulate those truck stops and service areas who have achieved high satisfaction scores, it’s important to remember that these figures only come from drivers who have chosen to stop in these locations – therefore a degree of satisfaction is to be assumed. It’s important to look at the bigger picture, and while we have seen a slight improvement, we are still in a position where 2/3 of drivers cannot say they are satisfied with either the quantity or the quality of truck stops on the UK SRN.

The RHA continues to work with the Government, industry and bodies like Transport Focus through our HGV Parking Task and Finish Group to bring these issues to light and to promote the policy reforms that will bring about more safe and secure parking spaces for our HGV drivers.
