Universal Theme Park a boost for the road freight, logistics and tourism sectors

It has been confirmed that a new Universal Theme Park and resort will be built in Bedford. The government officially announced the multi-billion-pound deal this morning - whilst pledging infrastructure investment to improve transport links and access to the new resort.

Universal says the attraction will create 28,000 jobs. 20,000 over the next six years during construction and 8,000 permanent roles in hospitality, and tourism once it opens its doors in 2031.

Commenting on the news, RHA Managing Director Richard Smith said:

This major project represents a significant opportunity for jobs, economic growth and infrastructure development in the region, and our industry will play a key role in this, including delivering the materials needed over the next six years during the construction phase.

"The road freight and logistics sector will be essential to supporting this and other large-scale projects and we're committed to working in collaboration with Government and trusted partners to boost growth. To do so, we must see roads and facilities in place fit for a modern economy, and a focus on attracting, training, and retaining the next generation of drivers and technicians to deliver such projects. Initiatives such as skills bootcamps will be key to meeting this demand."
