We need infrastructure fit for purpose - RHA MD

In his latest editorial, Managing Director Richard Smith outlines how roadside infrastructure can keep the economy moving and competitive.

The Transport Secretary has this week pledged to deliver on a pre-election promise to support local authorities by improving roads and addressing the decline of our road network. She said, “potholes are a reminder of the decline in our country’s infrastructure.”

We welcome the plan to address the poor state of roads and highways. We need a strong network of roads which is safe and reliable with capacity to accommodate future growth in demand. We know the knock-on impact unsafe and unfinished roads can have for drivers and businesses, so investment such as this is positive news.

With the final decision coming on the Lower Thames Crossing project next Friday 4 October, it's key that essential infrastructure projects for tackling congestion such as this are delivered.

We’ve long campaigned in favour of the Lower Thames Crossing as it has the potential to unlock real economic benefits locally, and improve journey reliability for HGVs, LGVs and Coaches - not just in the area, but throughout the country.

To keep the economy moving and competitive, our critical industry needs infrastructure which is fit for purpose. A thriving road transport sector is only as strong as the road network it operates on, and we’ll continue to campaign for investment in motorways, major roads and key projects.

We're ready to work with local and national Government to ensure that Britain’s roads are in a fit state to deliver economic growth locally, regionally and nationally.
