Driver CPC reform – we want your views

Driver CPC reform – we want your views

29 Mar 2023 Posted By Kate Gibbs

The Government has announced a consultation on proposed changes to the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC).

We’d ask you to respond to our short survey to help us articulate a clear position on the views of the industry.

These reforms aim to increase flexibility and choice for renewing the DCPC and offer faster re-entry for returning drivers.

The proposed changes would create two parallel qualifications for driving in Great Britain:

a national DCPC (known as N-DCPC) – the subject of these proposals

an international DCPC (known as I-DCPC) – exactly the same as the current DCPC

The National DCPC will offer a new test route and a more flexible 35-hour training option.

Your views on the proposal

Have your say through this short survey – please respond by Thursday 6 April.

More about the proposed reforms

The proposed changes would only apply to drivers completing journeys within Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Drivers wishing to drive to, or within the EU, will still need the existing DCPC, due to EU law.

The proposed changes will only impact drivers who are renewing their DCPC.

Changes will not affect how DCPC is initially obtained.

Full details of the Government consultation are available here and we encourage operators and drivers to respond to the full consultation as well as our survey.
