New rules for commercial drivers entering England from France

New rules for commercial drivers entering England from France

21 Jul 2021 Posted By Josh Reynolds

New measures are now in place for anyone entering England from France, but some exceptions do apply for commercial vehicle drivers.

Anyone returning from France will have to quarantine at home for 10 days, even if they have received two doses of Coronavirus vaccine.

Exemptions only apply to drivers of goods vehicles and employees of community licence holders for the international carriage of goods. However, these exceptions only apply if those drivers are returning from a work trip, and not from a holiday.

The GOV.UK website lays out the rules for drivers of goods vehicles:
Before you travel to the UK, you need to complete the passenger locator form, although you will not need to take a pre-entry Covid-19 test, and will not be required to quarantine.

These rules apply to drivers of goods vehicles, including HGVs and vans, and other employees of community licence holders for the international carriage of goods. You will need to show that your travel is part of your job, for example a letter from your employer, a consignment note or your operator’s licence.

The full details of the rules for goods vehicle drivers, including specifics for Green, Amber and Red list countries, can be found here.

The GOV.UK website lays out the rules for bus and coach drivers:
Coach drivers and their passengers will be treated different for the purposes of reentry into England.

Drivers will be required to take a pre-entry Covid-19 test, a post-entry Covid-19 test which must be booked in advance, complete the passenger locator form, and will not be required to quarantine.

However, coach drivers arriving from Amber list countries who have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccination under the UK vaccination programme will not be required to complete a post-entry test or a passenger locator form, if their pre-entry test has been negative.
