The National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) and representatives from the haulage and caravan industry, led by RHA, have been working together to address challenges facing operators who move abnormal loads and the vital industries they support.
The Abnormal Loads working group, which is made up of a number of trade associations, convened earlier this year to address concerns that some police forces are enforcing rules inconsistently; with hauliers saying that costs and bureaucracy have increased.
We have achieved a number of key successes to resolve some of the issues our respective members have brought to us including:
- Updating the NPCC guidance for abnormal loads
- Greater consistency between police forces for abnormal load policies
There is still a lot more to do however we’ve forged a very positive relationship with the NPCC to collaborate on longer term projects – sharing our expertise and resources to promote best practice amongst the industry and police alike.
