The government announced today how it will allocate its £1.6bn budget for road maintenance. Each local authority in England can use its allocation of money to identify which roads are in most need of repair to deliver fixes.

Commenting on today's announcement, RHA Senior Public Affairs Lead Ashton Cull said:

"We welcome the Government's announcement of £1.6bn for local road maintenance - with funds allocated specifically for potholes. It's vital that local authorities receive long-term funding to enable better planning of essential road maintenance and pothole repairs.

"Congestion costs the UK economy £30bn per year and we support infrastructure projects which will make our road networks safer and more efficient to drive long-term economic growth.

"Ultimately, this Much needed Investment in our roads will reduce congestion and increase productivity."
