Dick Denby call on Baroness Vere to approve road trials for B-Doubles

Following the success of his recent B-Double semi-Trailer trial, Dick Denby has written to Baroness Vere asking for clearance to conduct road trials of the Eco-Link combination trailers.

The B-Double is a 25.25m, 60-tonne road train which would allow operators a massive increase in efficiency if approved for use on the UK's roads. It would also provide impressive environmental benefits, allowing more freight to be moved by fewer tractor units.

In his letter to Baroness Vere, Dick Denby explained that the recent trial, held last week at the Newark Showground in Nottingham, proved the industry's interest in the new trailer. The trial was attended industry leaders including WH Malcolm, Kuehne & Nagel, Culina logistics, Eddie Stobart Ltd, Tesco and others.

Dick also explained that the organisations who attended the trail represent at least ten thousand vehicles, and he believes this is a serious statement of industry engagement.

During the recent trial, the B-Double demonstrated it's manoeuvrability, easily managing to handle slalom and reversing trials, as well as what Denby managing director Peter Denby called the "roundabout test", complating a turning circle within the EU limit of 200 square meters.

RHA managing director Rod McKenzie said: “The success of the recent trial, and the enthusiasm of operators, is proof positive of the potential benefits that Dick Denby has long argued for. It’s now time for the Government to act in supporting this ingenious vehicle".
